The Rochefort General Hospital is based on the outskirts of the town since 2011, 1 avenue de Béligon. Geographically, it is located at approximately the same distance from the hospitals of Saintes, La Rochelle and Royan.

The Rehabilitation and Gerontology Centre (Care services, rehabilitation services, geriatric care, day centre) and the care home (Care home for dependent elderly persons and long-term care) have also been rebuilt on the hospital site in October 2013 with an overall capacity of 232 beds and places.

The Rochefort General Hospital offers 270 beds and medicine, surgery and obstetric services, as well as many specialist consultant services. Many services are available:

  • Digital imagery department (CT scan, MRI scan, radiology, mammography, echography, dental panoramic x-ray),
  • Maternity ward,
  • Paediatrics and neonatal unit,
  • Operating theatre equipped with 7 rooms,
  • 1 clinical test laboratory.

Most patient rooms are private rooms with their own bathroom. They are all equipped with a safe.

Emergency Department

The emergency department receives adults and children. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The out-of-hours medical centre (general practitioners) is on-call during weekends and bank holidays for consultations within the hospital emergency department.

As childbirths are not delivered in Royan, patients are required to go to the Rochefort or Saintes Maternity units.

A perinatal centre is open between 9am and 6pm from Monday to Friday at the Royan Hospital, 20 avenue de Saint Sordelin in Vaux sur mer. For out-of- hours, please dial 15.

Administrative procedures and healthcare coverage

When you arrive at the hospital for a consultation, medical tests and analysis or a hospitalisation, you will be required to show an ID with a photograph to the reception desk staff.

Your country of origin belongs to the European Community or is a member of the European Health Insurance Card scheme and you are admitted for out-patient care or admitted to hospital as an emergency: You must show your European Health card and shall be required to pay part of the cost of your out-patient care or the daily fixed charge and/or single room supplement for a hospital admission.

Your country of origin does not belong to the European Community and you are admitted for out-patient care or admitted to hospital as an emergency: You will be required to pay the full cost of your out-patient care or for the consultation fees, daily fixed charge associated with your hospital admission as well as the costs of special dietary requirements if it is the case.

Your hospital stay

You will need to bring your own clothing (nightdress, pyjamas, dressing gown, facecloths and towels, napkins, slippers…) and toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap…). The hospital will provide and replace bed linens as often as necessary.

Meals are served at regular times (breakfast from 8am, lunch from noon, diner from 7pm). We pay a particular attention to the composition of the meals. Patients who have to follow a specific diet will be taken care of by our dieticians. You will be able to choose your meals when the ward staff comes to visit you in your room.

To have access to the TV or the telephone, you will need to ask reception staff in the hospital main entrance. Reception is open between 8.30am and 6pm from Monday to Friday and between 2 and 5pm on Saturdays.

Two phone boxes are available in the main entrance, opposite the cafeteria/shop.

Visitors

Food and beverages are available from vending machines located on the ground floor where you will also find a cafeteria/shop. The cafeteria sells beverages, pastries, sandwiches, salads, meals, press, books, stationery items, essential hygiene products, telephone cards… The cafeteria is open between 9am and 6pm from Monday to Friday and between noon and 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

To avoid any disruption in the provision of care, we recommend afternoon visits. Children under 14 are not authorized without prior medical agreement.

Hydro-alcoholic solutions are available in each patient room. Visitors are required to use it on their hands as they are the main source of contamination; Visitors are also asked not to sit or leave clothes or bags on the patient’s bed. Visitors are not authorized to use the patient bathroom. Public toilets are available on each floor.

Visitors can only bring food upon approval from the medical staff. Animals and alcoholic drinks are strictly forbidden.

Potted plants are not authorized in the patient’s room. Bouquets are only allowed in some wards: Please ask staff.

You may be authorized by the Unit health executive to stay overnight and/or take your meals with the patient. In this case, please arrange to pay for your overnight stay, meal and breakfast with reception staff.
